Long Term Regional Training Programme (LTRTP)- I

In 1997 ASOSAI launched the Long Term Regional Training Programme (LTRTP) with Asian Development Bank (ADB) funding and professional instructors from the INTOSAI Development Initiative (IDI). The main objective of LTRTP was to increase the capacity of ASOSAI and individual SAIs and to encourage cooperation among the SAIs in the region. Specifically the programme was designed to (I) assist ASOSAI to assume increasing responsibility for designing and organising regional training programmes and information exchange facilities now provided by IDI and (II) upgrade both the training and technical audit skills of individual SAIs.

Twenty-Seven participants from 15 members SAIs completed two intensive workshops to become certified training specialists. These workshops included a 8 week Course Design and Development Course (CDDC) in Bangkok from January 19 to March 13, 1998 and a four week instructor Training Course (ITC) in Kuala Lumpur from June 8 to July 3, 1998. All the twenty seven participants were awarded an IDI diploma for training specialist

LTRTP-II

Inspired by the success of LTRTP-I, in December 2001, ADB agreed to provide financial assistance for a new LTRTP for the purpose of (1) strengthening the regional training capability of the ASOSAI by reinforcing and expanding its pool of regional trainers and (2) improve Audit skills and fraud prevention and detection skills of SAI auditors. The instructor's meeting for the Course Design and Instructional Techniques Workshop (CDITW) was held in Istanbul, Turkey in June 2002. The CDITW was conducted in September to November 2002 in Thailand. Thirty-two (32) participants from 20 SAIs successfully completed the workshop and became certified training specialists.

Apart from the above workshops LTRTP-II also provided guidelines on fraud and corruption for Asian SAIs.
