ASOSAI sponsors one training programme in each financial year for capacity building among the member SAIs of ASOSAI. Accordingly in the financial year 2005 ASOSAI sponsored a workshop on “Performance Audit”. The Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India hosted the workshop at their international training centre, which is known as “International Centre for Information System and Audit” (iCISA) in NOIDA (Near Delhi) from November 8-19, 2005. Mr. Vijayendra N. Kaul, Comptroller and Auditor General of India declared the workshop open on November 08, 2005. There were 38 participants from 38 member countries. They were trained by a group of 7 instructors from seven member countries. The workshop concluded on March 19, 2005 with a valedictory address by Mr. Kanwal Nath, Deputy Comptroller and Auditor General.

An IDI sponsored workshop on “ Dealing with Fraud and Corruption in Auditing” was held in Lahore, Pakistan from December 12-17, 2005. 37 participants from 15 SAIs attended the workshop. The workshop was aimed at equipping the participants with the knowledge and skills necessary for detecting and preventing fraud and corruption while conducting their regular audit assignments. The workshop provided ample opportunities for the participants to actively participate through case studies, group discussions etc.

A new project to assist newly established SAIs to upgrade their audit capabilities with financial assistance of ADB and IDI is currently underway. The targeted SAIs under the new project are: East and Central Asian Region (Group-1) and Mekong and South Asia (Group-2). The IDI, besides providing financial assistance, is also providing technical assistance including conducting the Training Needs Assessment and Workshop for Group-1. The 1st Pre Workshop instructors meeting to design course material for the first workshop for the targeted group 1 (Central & East Asian SAIs) and 2 (Mekong and South Asian SAIs) was held at Hanoi, Vietnam in March 13-24, 2006. The first regional audit workshop No.–1 (RAW-1) on “Audit of Revenue Agency” will be held in July/ August 2006 in Mongolia. The 1st workshop for group 2 is scheduled in January 2007.
It was decided in the 35th meeting of the Governing Board that two types of seminars would be held to facilitate knowledge sharing among member SAIs.
A five-day seminar will be organized every alternate year for 30 middle- or senior-level audit managers from member SAIs.
This seminar will be open to all ASOSAI members.
ASOSAI will bear international travel cost for all the participants up to a maximum of US$ 1,500 and all cost for 2 Subject Matter Experts (SME), while the participating SAIs will be required to bear other expenses such as boarding, lodging and per diem of their participant.
A 10-day seminar will be organized for 14 middle – or senior-level manages from ASOSAI members SAIs.
This seminar will be funded by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), which will cover SAIs of member countries eligible for JICA assistance.
The first seminar is tentatively scheduled some time after October in 2006. The Board of Audit of Japan will make further efforts to negotiate with JICA so that it may be possible to organized a seminar every year from 2007 onward.
The 7th ASOSAI research project on “Audit Quality Management System” has reach its 4th and final stage. The 6th meeting of the research team drafting the guidelines of the projects was held at Dhaka, Bangladesh from April 3-4, 2006.
SAI of Lao-PDR joined ASOSAI in January 2006 after clearing all the formalities. The address of SAI, LAO-PDR and the complete list of member SAIs of ASOSAI could be seen from the ASOSAI website www.asosai.org
X ASOSAI Assembly will be held in Shanghai, China from September 12-15, 2006. The venue of the Assembly is “Shanghai International Convention Centre” which is located in Pudong, New Area. The host SAI-China has sent the registration forms along with invitation letter of Mr. Li Jinhua, Auditor General of China to the member SAIs and observers with a request to send back the filled in forms by the deadline of May 31, 2006. The forms could also be sent electronically. For the facilitation of the member SAIs and invitees National Audit Office of China (CNAO) has dedicated a special web site www.audit.gov.cn .All participants would receive meeting package including confirmation of hotel reservation, baggage tags and other information/material in early August.
