2003 dawned with great expectations. The year promised to be full of activities in the ASOSAI region. The first half of the year however proved inauspicious with the shadow of gulf war and then the epidemic of SARS. A number of training programmes which were eagerly looked forward to had to be postponed depriving the participants of an opportunity to meet and interact. We are confident however that things will improve and that ASOSAI shall continue to progress.

The year 2002 set another landmark in the annals of ASOSAI history. During the year we entered into an agreement with ADB and IDI to conduct training Programmes and to add to our list of training specialists. The first training for trainers under the new agreement took place in Thailand in November 2002, where 28 participants were trained as training specialists under 8 expert instructors of the first LTRTP.

I welcome SAI-Kazakhstan our new colleague in the ASOSAI fraternity. All of us eagerly look forward to the Assembly in October where we will get an opportunity to renew contacts and meet each other. Till then, best wishes and happy reading.
