Elmer B. Staats Award goes to Mr. Ram Babu Nepal, Assistant Auditor General of Nepal

Mr. Ram Babu Nepal, Assistant Auditor General of Nepal received the "Elmer B. Staats Award" in recognition of his article "Dimensions of Revenue Auditing" which was adjudged the best among the articles published in the International Journal of Government Auditing from 1995 to 1997. The award was conferred to him during the sixteenth Congress of the International Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI) in November 1998 at Montevideo Uruguay.

The article was published in the 1996 July issue of the journal.

Montevideo Congress

1998 was the year of XVI INCOSAI hosted by SAI, Uruguay in the picturesque city of Montevideo from 7.11.1998 to 14.11.1998.

Among the important decisions taken by the Congress was the constitution of a "Special Group" that would look into methods of disseminating information resulting from the activities of the Standing Committees and Working Groups. The emphasis would be to address the needs of SAIs across the world ranging from those capable of using advanced technology such as Internet to those who would prefer paper outputs.

Shri V.K. Shunglu, Comptroller and Auditor General of India was awarded the Jorg Kandutsch Award in recognition of the important achievements and contributions in the field of Government Audit, made by his office.

For most participants, this Congress afforded a glimpse into one of the world's most interesting areas, and also an opportunity to meet with colleagues from around the globe and discover what great similarities existed under apparent diversity.
