In June 1996, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) approved a technical assistance for ASOSAI providing US $1,000,000 for the implementation of the ASOSAI/IDI Long Term Regional Training Programme. The main goal of LTRTP is to help SAI's enhance their training capabilities and broaden the scope of their training and information exchange activities through the establishment of an infrastructure that will ensure the sustainability and viability of regional as well as local training programmes.
Participating SAIs agreed to the following action plan:
The SPM was held from 4 to 10 June 1997 in Medan, Indonesia with funding from ADB and considerable administrative support from the host SAL
Twenty senior officials from ten SAIs, e.g. Governing Board and Audit Committee member SAIs and a Special Advisor SAI, participated in the Meeting. There were also three facilitators from IDI and an observer from ADB.
The 24th & 25th Governing Board Meetings of ASOSAI were held at Jakarta on October 5th 1997 and on October 10th 1997 just prior to and at the end of the 7lh ASOSAI Assembly and 6th International Seminar. In these two meetings important issues like amendments to the Charter and Rules and Regulations of
ASOSAI, increase in Governing Board Membership, various training Programmes, Research Project, Revision of ASOSAI contribution etc. were discussed.

The research project team comprising of the members from the SAIs of Australia, Malaysia & India meet in February 1998 to finalise the editing'of the papers received from different SAIs and after that the IV ASOSAI Research project on "Government Revenues -Accountability & Audit" will be ready for printing. The despatch will start by the end of June1998.
During the 7th Assembly, the membership of the Governing Board was raised from 8 to 9. Kuwait and Malaysia were elected as new members. The Assembly placed on record its deep appreciation of the role played by Australia, which will not offer itself for re-relection.
