J.B. Sumarlin Chairman,
Supreme Audit Board, Indonesia

Dr. J.B. Sumarlin has been appointed as Chairman of the Supreme Audit Board of Indonesia for a five-year term from August 11,1993.

Born on December 7,1932 in Blitar, East Jawa, he obtained Master of Arts degree in Economics from the University of California and Phd. from the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs at the University of Pittsburgh, USA. He has a long and distinguished career in public service and government having held various important positions. He has also served as a member of the United Nations Governing Council of the Regional Training and Research Institute of ESCAP in Bangkok, Thailand. Prior to his appointment as the Chairman of the Supreme Audit Board, he was Minister of Finance and concurrently held the charge of Chairman of the Indonesian Monetary Board.

Mrs. Miriam Ben
Porat State Comptroller, Israel

On May 27, 1993, the Knesset (Parliament) re-elected Justice Miriam Ben Porat as State Comptroller and Public Complaints Commissioner, Israel for a second five-year term of office. This was in accordance with the 'Basic Law: State Comptroller' by secret ballot at a session of the Knesset convened exclusively for the purpose. Mrs. Ben Porat made her declaration of allegiance before the Knesset on June 30, 1993.

Shinji Yazaki
President, Board of Audit, Japan

Mr.Shinji Yazaki, who was one of the three Commissioners of the Board of Audit, Japan was appointed as the President of the Board on April 12, 1994 succeeding Mr.Takashi Nakajima.

Mr. Yazaki joined the Ministry of Finance in 1953 after his graduation i from the Tokyo University. In 1981, he was transferred to the i Defence Agency and held office of Vice-Minister of the Agency from June 1985 to June 1987. In July 1987, he was appointed Vice-President of Japan National Oil Corporation. In April 1989 he was appointed Commissioner of the Board.

Shi-Yoon Lee
Chairman, Board of Audit and Inspection, Korea

Mr.Shi-Yoon Lee was appointed as the Chairman of the Board of Audit and Inspection of the Republicof Korea on December 17,1993 succeeding Mr. Hoi Chang Lee who has become the Prime Minister. Mr. Lee holds a number of Law degrees from the Seoul University CollegeofLawandGraduateSchool. His distinguished legal career includes service as a judge in various courts since 1962. Immediately | prior to his present appointment, he served as justice in the Constitutional Court.

Pascasio S. Banaria
Chairman, Commission on Audit,Philippines

Mr.Pascasio S. Banaria was appointed the Chairman of the Commission on Audit, Philippines in May 1993 succeeding Mr.Eufemio C. Domingo. He was previously associated with the SAI as a consultant from 1987 to 1993. He holds a degree in Master of Science in Accounting and as a Certified Public Accountant, obtaining highest rating in the CPA examination of 1946. He has participated in a number of conferences, symposia etc. and has received several awards. He had professional affiliations with a number of institutions and was also connected with several civil organisations. He has written several articles and has delivered lectures on several topics.

Even as we publish the news about the appointment of Mr.Banaria as Chairman of the Philippinese Commission on Audit, we have received the news (as we go to the press) that he has since demitted office on retirement on March 24,1994 and Mr.Celso D. Gangan has succeeded him on his appointment as the Chairman of the Commission on Audit on March 25,1994. He is one of the members of the Editorial Board of this journal.
