MAY of this year will mark the fifteenth anniversary of the first Assembly of ASOSAI in New Delhi. This is also the year in which the members will meet at New Delhi during November for the Sixth Assembly and Fifth International Seminar of ASOSAI. The achievements of ASOSAI during the past fifteen years have been most gratifying. The four international seminars at Seoul, Tokyo, Bali and Beijing; the various other seminars, workshops and training programmes held with the cooperation of member SAIs, INTOSAI Development Initiative and other Aid Agencies; the output of the two research programmes successfully completed; and the establishment of a Computer Expert Group are all proof of ASOSAI's role in promoting understanding and cooperation among member institutions through exchange of ideas and experiences in the field of public audit. We cannot however rest on past successes; and should strive for excellence, which can be achieved through the active participation and cooperation of the members in furthering the cause of ASOSAI.
Since the publication of the last issue of the journal, there has been a change in the General Secretariat of ASOSAI. Mr.Shinji Yazaki has become the new Secretary General of ASOSAI on his appointment as President, Board of Audit, Japan on April 12, 94 succeeding Mr.Takashi Nakajima. Two more changes have taken place in the Governing Board of ASOSAI. Mr.Shi-Yoon Lee and Mr. J.B. Sumarlin are the new members on their appointment as Chairman of the Board of Audit and Inspection of the Republic of Korea and Chairman of the Supreme Audit Board of the Republic of Indonesia respectively, succeeding Mr. Hoi Chang Lee and Mr.M. Jusuf. There has also been a change in the Editorial Board. Mr.Celso D. Gangan has recently become the Chairman of the Commission on Audit of the Republic of Philippines on retirement of Mr. Pascasio S. Banaria who had succeeded Mr.Eufemio C. Domingo. We welcome the new members and with their guidance hope to accomplish further improvements. We would also like to place on record, the consistent support the outgoing members have given to the activities of ASOSAI and our grateful appreciation of the encouragement given to this journal, during their tenure of office. We warmly congratulate Mr. Hoi Chang Lee on his appointment as the Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea.
The Journal constantly endeavours to make the members increasingly aware of the advancements in the fields of auditing, accounting and financial management and in each others work. While thankfully acknowledging the contributions received from member institutions for this issue, we would urge for the continued cooperation and support of the member SAIs to enhance the coverage of the journal to make it more informative, educative and interesting.
