Editorial

  1. As the Journal enters its fourth year, the Editors are searching and looking for ways to make it more informative, educative and interesting. The Journal is yours and it is what you, the members, make it. We look forward to increased response in terms of contribution of articles, case studies, news items and such other material in future from our members. If the response is indeed as encouraging as we expect, we can think of even increasing the frequency of the journal.
  2. The theme of the May 1985 Tokyo Assembly, as you all know, was 'The role of S.A. Is in promoting Accountability.' We are proud that Tan Sri Ahmad Noordin, the Secretary General of ASOSAI and the Auditor General of Malaysia, has won recognition "for effective, fearless exposure of inefficiency and corruption in government, making a reality of public accountability" and was honoured with the 1985 Ramon Magsaysay Award which is the Asian equivalent of Nobel Prize. We salute and applaud him.
  3. As the year 1985 was drawing to a close, a change occurred in the leadership of ASOSAI. Mr. Tsutomu Ohkubo has become the new Chairman of ASOSAI, succeeding Mr. Hideo Kamada, on his appointment as the President, Board of Audit, Japan on October 25, 1985. We welcome him and with his active support hope to scale new heights. We would also like to place on record our appreciation of the support Mr. Hideo Kamada gave for this journal during his tenure of office.
  4. From the nebulous start in the Tagatay city (Philippines) in 1977 to the Tokyo Assembly in mid-1985, the ASOSAI has traversed a long distance to achieve its aim of promoting understanding and co-operation among member institutions. The Journal constantly endeavours to make the ASOSAI members increasingly aware of the advancements in the fields of auditing, accounting and financial management and more than that of each other's work. The goals are set high. The journal has to strive for excellence end this can succeed in full measure only with the effective support of the members. The challenge has to be met and we seek your cooperation in meeting this challenge.
