Long Term Regional Training Programme (LTRTP)

In June 1996, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) approved a technical assistance for ASOSAI providing US $1,000,000 for the implementation of the ASOSAI/IDI Long Term Regional Training Programme. The main goal of LTRTP is to help SAI's enhance their training capabilities and broaden the scope of their training and information exchange activities through the establishment of an infrastructure that will ensure the sustainability and viability of regional as well as local training programmes.

Participating SAIs agreed to the following action plan:

  1. The ASOSAI Secretariat is to circulate the Strategic Planning Meeting report in final form as soon as possible. It will submit it to the ASOSAI Governing Board for its endorsement at its next meeting, in October 1997.
  2. Individual SAIs are to be requested to start considering the selection of candidates for the LTRTP in the immediate future, so that nominations can be made on a timely basis for the upcoming CDDW.
  3. The RTC is to develop a regional training plan and related funding strategy and to submit same to the ASOSAI Governing Board at its next meeting.
  4. The RTC is to review the LTRTP Evaluation Framework proposed by IDI (in consultation with ADB and IDI) with a view to adapting it to ensure that it is appropriate for, and applicable to, the ASOSAI region. In doing so, it will also review the wording of the LTRTP statement of objective referred to in section 5.1. of this report. It will present its recommendations in this regard to the ASOSAI Governing Board at its next meeting.
